Conversations are a part of everyday life. But for many learners, understanding how conversations work can feel confusing, stressful, or overwhelming. Knowing how to start a conversation, join a group, understand humor, recognize social cues, or keep a conversation going does not always come naturally.

The WonderKids Conversations Module was created to help learners better understand these social moments through engaging, interactive, and repeatable learning experiences based on real life situations.

Why Conversations Can Be So Challenging

Many families see how much their child wants to connect with others. At the same time, they also see how hard conversations can sometimes become. Some learners may:

Nine interactive lessons covering every part of social communication and conversational understanding.

1. Starting Conversations

Learners explore ways to begin conversations appropriately through guided examples, modeled interactions, and supportive practice opportunities.

2. Joining Conversations

Learners better understand how to enter conversations respectfully, recognize opportunities to participate, and feel more comfortable joining social situations.

3. Maintaining Conversations

Learners practice the natural back-and-forth flow of conversations, including staying on topic, taking turns, and keeping conversations going.

4. Active Listening

Focused on listening skills, recognizing verbal and nonverbal cues, and responding appropriately during conversations.

5. Ending Conversations

Learners explore ways to appropriately end conversations while maintaining positive communication with others.

6. Recognizing Conversational Cues

Learners better recognize social signals, conversational timing, and interest levels that help guide conversations.

7. Using Conversational Manners

Learners practice respectful conversational behaviors, including politeness, appropriate responses, and social expectations.

8. Using Figurative Language

Learners are introduced to figurative language and expressions that may not always mean exactly what the words say literally.

9. Understanding What is Funny

Learners explore humor, jokes, and playful social interaction in a guided way that builds understanding of different types of humor.

🌊 Interactive Pirate Game

The module ends with an interactive game experience that reinforces conversational concepts and gives learners a fun opportunity to practice skills learned throughout the module.
